ABOUT SAPSAC

SAPSAC is a new multi-disciplinary Professional Society specifically focussed on the area of child abuse.

Professionals working with the problem of child abuse have long felt the need for organised means of communication as well as closer cooperation with other professionals working in the field, to obtain a better understanding of their approach and views. In this connection SAPSAC was established to effect cross-pollination by the exchange of ideas to cater for these needs.

The Society disseminates professional information and facilitates the exchange of ideas and networking by:

· A biannual professional journal, Child Abuse Research in South Africa (CARSA)
· A quarterly Newsletter, SAPSAC News (see copies on the site).
· A disk containing 14 relevant articles on child abuse recently published by the American Prosecutors Research Institute(APRI), at cost (R20).
· An annual conference, two of which have already been held. Members receive a R100 discount on the fees of the annual conference.
· A membership list, indicating members' names and addresses and areas of speciality to facilitate direct networking.
· A Discussion Forum, which is accessible for members from the website. The purpose of the Forum is to enable members to tap the pool of collective know-how of members in the field of child abuse or to share important new information with other members. This forum should prove indispensable once members become used to utilise it for the exchange of ideas.
· Establishing branches country-wide for meetings/seminars locally.

An Application for Membership form is supplied. The joining fee is R50 followed by a membership fee of R20 per month, both of which can be paid by debit order. Members receive CARSA and Newsletters free of charge. When joining, new members receive the latest membership list, copies of the last two editions of CARSA as well as a number of the latest Newsletters.
